Since 1978 Amhard Kennels have been involved with German Shepherd Dogs, at first with obedience training and shows and then later with the show side. With the experience we have gained over the years, we firmly believe that although you may buy a companion dog from us, that dog should still be a good representative of the breed, with a steady calm temperament. All our dogs are Hip scored at twelve months of age.

In the early eighties , we became fascinated by the complete contrast of the Italian Spinone. These dogs are deceptively clumsy looking but exhibit a gait that can quite easily keep up with that of a German Shepherd. Our spinoni have gone on to win at Championship show level and Amhard Cross Swords became Best Puppy in Breed at Crufts.

In 1998 an equally enduring interest in terriers came to fruition when we were introduced to The Glen of Imaal Terrier (popularly known as a Glen, that despite it's name is a native breed of Ireland), a dog that has never reached the popular heights of, for example, the Cairn or West Highland White and is still on The Vulnerable Native Breeds list with only 47 being born in 2006. A 14" terrier with the body of a steam train, an incomparable sense of humour and a willingness to work. We have been privileged to see this dog hunt and retrieve to prove it's versatility. All our Glens are eye tested regularly.

Later on in 1998 we were given the privilege of owning an Australian Terrier, these feisty little dogs have a fierce abiding love of their owners and you literally become owned by an "Aussie".the Aussie was originally bred for the control of vermin including snakes in it's native Australia and still exhibits the speed and audacity that is needed for this type of work.

Temperament, conformation, breed type, and soundness are all of equal importance whether the dog is to be shown, take part in obedience or work, or to be somone's beloved companion. You want to know that the breeder of your dog has taken all possible precautions.

If you are interested in finding out more about our vulnerable native breeds please click on the link shown below.Or visit The Glen of Imaal stand at Discover Dogs at Crufts or Discover Dogs at Earls Court which is held in November of every year. You'll will be made very welcome by all our members who willingly give their free time to man the booth, such is their enthusiasm for the breed. Another interesting link is the Glen of Imaal Terrier Association (GOITA) site. Not forgetting a link to The Italian Spinone Club of Great Britain Site(ISCGB)
